According to data from the Department of Health (DOH) Wednesday morning, more than half of the suspected cases of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines have so far tested negative for infection.
Advertising 196 of the total 382 PUIs registered in the country tested negative and had already been cleared.
On the other hand, three positive tested while 183 other suspected cases await laboratory test results.
Most of the PUIs on the basis of DOH’s real-time tracker were registered in Metro Manila, Central Visayas, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Western Visayas.
The tracker does not classify the nationalities for potential exposure of those under investigation.
The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) performs the confirmatory tests required to determine whether COVID-19 is present in a country with a PUI. According to the DOH the test results usually take 24 to 48 hours.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III has previously said other Level 3 hospitals and laboratories in the Philippines will be fitted with test kits to reduce the turnaround time in identifying infected people.
