PETALING JAYA – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim claimed Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad denied involvement and was disappointed by the current political turmoil.
Anwar said that Dr Mahathir told him that he neither approved of the attempt or planned to join to form a new government without PKR, DAP and Amanah.
“He said and reiterated to me what he had said earlier and denied involvement. He made it very clear he will not work with those associated with the past regime.”
Anwar returned to PKR headquarters following his meeting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The PKR president also claimed that he tried to convice Dr. Mahathir not to resign as the PM but to no avail.
“I did appeal to him on behalf of Keadilan and Pakatan Harapan (PH), that these treacheries could be dealt with together.”
“His name (Dr Mahathir) has been used by those in my party and outside (the party),” he added. Aside from Dr Mahathir’s resignation as prime minister, the Bersatu party also quit the PH coalition with 11 MPs leaving PKR to become independent..
