President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo invited the leadership of the government coalition party to discuss omnibus law on job creation bill in the palace. The President knows that the draft has received public rejection. For this reason, the parliament is asked to consider input from the public in the discussion.
This was conveyed, Secretary General of the United Development Party (PPP) Arsul Sani “From what Mr. Jokowi said, it seems to me that he knows that there is also resistance from various elements of the community against the Work Creation Bill,” Arsul said at the Parliament House, Jakarta, Thursday, March 12.
Arsul explained, in the meeting, Jokowi explained about the clusters that were widely protested by the public, namely labor and licensing that had an impact on the environment. Jokowi also requested that the omnibus law be discussed in the House of Representatives (DPR).
“Jokowi said that it was a good thing, because there were actually two direct stakeholders, a group of entrepreneurs and a group of workers. That was expected to be encouraged,” said Arsul who is also a member of the DPR Legal Commission
Arsul also explained the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Rosan Roeslani who continued to establish communication dialogue meetings with trade unions. This problem has also been talked with Jokowi about informal omnibus law on another occasion.
“It means he is following or at least getting information about it and Mr. Jokowi said yes it has been discussed together,” Arsul said.
It is known, public rejection of the omnibus law is widespread in various regions. In Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Semarang, Malang, Surabaya and Makassar, students and workers take to the streets together.
A number of trade unions even stated that they would hold large demonstrations until the general strike demanded that the government cancel the omnibus law discussion on the job creation bill. “We encourage actions to take place in the regions towards a national strike,” said Congress Alliance of Indonesian Labor Unions (KASBI) Confederation Chairperson Nining Elitos in the Menteng area, some time ago.
While at the meeting at the State Palace were present the general chairmen of the coalition party Jokowi-Ma’ruf Amin, namely the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chairperson of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh, Chairperson of the Golkar Party Airlangga Hartarto and PPP Chairperson Suharso Monoarfa.
Then Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar, General Chairman of the Gerindra Party Prabowo Subianto. The secretary general of the coalition party was also present at the meeting, plus Azis Syamsudin as Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Chairman of the NasDem Faction Ahmad Ali, and Chairman of the PKB Faction Cucun Syamsurizal. However, the Speaker of the Parliament, Puan Maharani, was absent because she was outside Jakarta.
