China China – As the territory confronts an expanding outbreak, China’s administration overseeing issues in the city said it will fully back Hong Kong’s “dynamic zero” coronavirus approach.

In a statement, a spokeswoman for the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO), which falls under China’s State Council or Cabinet, said the central government was “extremely worried” about residents’ safety and health, as well as the economy and people’s lives.

It said it will convene a conference between mainland and Hong Kong authorities in Shenzhen “in the near future” to “keep stability” and come up with strategies to boost Hong Kong’s battle against the illness.

“The motherland will undoubtedly reply as long as Hong Kong asks… We will undoubtedly be able to conquer the disease soon if we work together,” it stated.

There has been a 10-fold increase in cases since February 1, and medical experts predict that by the end of March, the city might see 28,000 daily illnesses, with the elderly who have not been vaccinated being particularly vulnerable.

As capacity for hospital beds, isolation, and coronavirus testing nears its limit, the growth is proving to be the most difficult test for Hong Kong’s virus control program.
