Asean chair for the regional bloc Vietnam has made a proposal this year to hold a physical summit despite the Covid-19 pandemic, A high rank official from Indonesian Foreign Ministry announced today.

The face to face meeting, if approved, is expected to be held on June 27 and 28 i Da Nang, Vietnam. The two day summit which includes Asean Summit Plenary Session, the Asea Leaders’ Retreat, AIPA, the Asean Leaders’ Interface with Representatives of the Asean Business Advisory Council and the Interface Session on Women’s Empowerment.

The agenda will includes session for Asean Political-Security Community Council, Asean Socio-Cultural Community, Asean Economic Community Council and the Asean Coordinating Council.

Vietnam currently has a relative low infection rates among its neighbor with only 328 confirmed cases with zero deaths.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted activities for the Asean region that results to several postponement of diplomatic meetings and conferences. Asean has been actively engaging in number of meetings through video conferences since. The decision on whether they will approved the physical summit would come in a couple of days.
