An eyewitness for Reuters stated that environmental activist Greta Thunberg was taken into custody by Norwegian police for a short period of time during a demonstration in Oslo on March 1, 2019.

In recent days, indigenous activists and other activists in Norway who are seeking the removal of wind turbines from reindeer pastures have blocked entrance to multiple government offices.

Thunberg and the other protesters who were blocking one of the doors to the Norwegian Ministry of Finance were removed from the area by police officers who hoisted them up and hauled them away while other protesters yelled slogans.

The Norwegian Supreme Court declared in 2021 that two wind farms built at Fosen in central Norway infringed Sami rights under international conventions. Yet, more than 16 months later, the turbines are still operational.
