A helicopter unit owned by PT National Utility Helicopters (NUH) reportedly lost contact while flying from Nabire Airport, Papua.

Head of Nabire Airport, M Nafiq said, the helicopter carrying three people on board lost contact since 12.06 PM local time.

However, there was an emergency signal that transmitted from the helicopter and was identified by Emergency Group in Jakarta.

“We are checking the location. But, the emergency signal can be turned on accidentally or because of the accident,” said Nafiq, Thursday, September 17.

He could not confirm the existence of the emergency signal point transmitted by the PT NUH helicopter.

Nafiq said that they had dispatched a plane to check the location of the helicopter that lost contact.

However, when searching the lost helicopter, the weather in the location was cloudy with low cloud positions which made the activities disturbed.

The helicopter could have made an emergency landing due to weather conditions or an engine disturbance.

The helicopter belonging to PT NUH which flew from Nabire to the Baya Biru area, Panaiai Regency was carrying a cargo of food.
