Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said on Tuesday night that the United Nations must ensure that once the vaccine has been discovered, it must be made available to all.

Muhyiddin said that the Covid-19 pandemic has taken so many lives and has exposed the capacity and effectiveness of our health sector. The socio-economic impact has been steadily increasing.

He urged the UN that once the vaccine has been found, there should not be any discrimination. The prime minister said that we should remember that the virus does not discriminate.

Earlier, President of the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly Volkan Bozkir, stressed the importance of multilateralism that calls for efforts for a better future.

He said at the high-level meeting that Multilateralism is a necessity for us to build a better, more equal and resilient word.

This is the first time PM Muhyiddin will be addressing to a high-level meeting in UN since the appointment as the Prime Miniter of Malaysia in March this year. The meeting was held virtually and his statement was pre-recorded at his Putrajaya office. On May 11, 2018, Dr Mahathir announced that 15th Agong, Sultan Muhammad V, granted immediate royal pardon for Anwar before Mahathir was sworn into office as the seventh Prime Minister of the country.
