Since November 2024, Thailand has been receiving heavy rain and turbulent floods which took away lives and livelihood of many people. From the given information of Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, the flooding continued to hit the five Southern provinces hard which includes Chumphon, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Ranong & Surat and ruined 128,000 families. 

The mortality rate after this natural disaster has been reported as 29 and displaced more than 30,000 people. In the Reuters, they have highlighted a district called Chana of Songkhla witnessed an incessant rain and flood which was never in fifty years.

On Friday (December 20,2024), Thailand’s Deputy Government Spokesperson, Anukul Prueksanusak announced that the flood affected farmers and their agricultural land will receive the relief from the government soon after the survey which is going to take place in 30 days. 

“As for the process of requesting assistance for crop disaster victims, farmers will submit documents only once, and within 10 working days after receiving approval, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) will transfer the money directly to the farmers”, said the Spokesperson, Anukul.

As per the instructions of Department of Agricultural Extension, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and Ministry of Finance Regulations, the farmers will be assisted by the government officials for registering along with the update of their land details for emergency relief fund. 

  • 30 rai will be distributed for each household
  • 1,340 baht per rai – Rice
  • 1,980 baht per rai – field crops & vegetables
  • 4,048 baht per rai – perennial fruit trees and others

As of now, some of the areas have resumed their normal life meanwhile, the downstream areas which are outside the city still remain affected. It makes it more burdensome for old and medically complicated citizens.
