Palawan Floats After a Heavy Rain and Flood: DRRT Arrives to Rescue

Heavy rain has been pouring over the Palawan region in the Philippines for the past few days which led to the overflow of water reservoirs like lakes and rivers followed by uncontrollable floods hitting the residential areas. Palawan is considered to be an ecological frontier of the country. The PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration) has indicated that the heavy rain will continue for a few more days and issued a moderate general flood advisory for Palawan.

People who are residing near the mountain slopes, low-lying areas are instructed to be secured in a safe place due to flood alert. Meanwhile, the Marine Battalion Landing Team 7 has landed the flood affected areas such as Abo Abo, Sitio Kintay, Pulot Shore, Sofronio Espanola, Calasaguen, Mambalot, Iplian, and Maasin for the rescue. 

“The northeast monsoon is expected to affect Luzon, and the eastlies, or the warm air from the Pacific affects Visayas and Mindanao” said Chenel Dominguez, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Weather Specialist.  

The environment experts has stated that these furious natural disaster are due to the consequence of deforestation, and poor drainage systems.
