As part of his state visit to Indonesia, General Secretary To Lam made history in bilateral cooperative relations in science and technology with the formalization of the major advances between the governments of Vietnam and Indonesia. The Minister of Science and Technology, Nguyen Manh Hung, and his Indonesian counterpart, Brian Yuliarto, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, signed and exchanged a Letter of Intent that heralded deeper cooperation between the two countries. The signing was in the presence of the General Secretary To Lam and the Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Vision for Development
Before signing, the two ministers thrash out priority cooperation areas, identifying science, technology, and digital transformation as key economic drivers. Both Vietnam and Indonesia have ambitious targets beyond middle-income to become high-income economies by 2045.
During their discussions, they pointed out the need for national policies fostering investment in research and development, encouraging resource mobilization, and facilitating the uptake of modern technologies incrementally in various industries. They further described the need for stronger institutional linkages of universities, research centers, startups, and innovation hubs in creating an environment conducive to scientific growth.

Nurturing Innovation
The Letter of Intent indicates a commitment by both countries to foster greater collaboration among research institutes, universities, and technology innovation centers. This collaboration is meant to foster the exchange of knowledge, skills, and technology development, ultimately giving birth to joint research programs and investment opportunities.
The two countries are in a position to encourage innovation-led growth through this agreement, scientifically and technologically unlocking new avenues for economic potential with stronger bilateral cooperation in the years to come.
