The International Trade and Industry Ministry of Indonesia boldly raised a “no cheap stuff” sign on its entry points, targeting specifically nylon film from trade rival countries of China, Thailand, and Taiwan. Import duties have been slapped on it, and the amount is indeed big.
Think of it this way: your favorite local shop is being squeezed out by a big chain store selling the same thing for nearly nothing. That’s how Indonesia feels with its nylon film industry. That stuff’s everywhere – packaging, medicine, you name it.
They did their homework, however. They found these foreign companies were selling their stuff way below market value – it called “dumping.” And it was hurting the local businesses. So, they’re fighting back now.

Pretty much an added tax. The toll on nylon film for importation isn’t flat-rate, either. A few will pay just a little; others will pay much – from change to a few bucks per kilo. Specific names were called out, like Kunshan Yuncheng and AJ Plast. And for Taiwan? Every country gets slabbed by the same tax.
China, as of today, has become the greatest trading partner for Indonesia. So, this becomes a “let’s talk” situation. But Indonesia is serious. They are protecting their industries. This is not a short-term solution; this measure will be in effect for four years. Changes in the cost of those wrappings being spread everywhere can be expected.
