The Pakatan Harapan (PH) Secretariat at national level today called for an end to all kinds of bullying by the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government against its lawmakers. In a joint statement, the alliance said it sees the opposition lawmakers’ latest police inquiry strings as a means of coercion by the governing regime, owing to perceived differences in political opinion.
The National Secretariat of Pakatan Harapan has taken notice of a number of acts in which opposition parliamentarians from Pakatan Harapan have been called upon by the authorities to challenge and often such activities are followed by media coverage that lift those suspicions towards certain persons.
The National Secretariat of Pakatan Harapan sees these acts as a means of repression of political enemies. Such manifestations of violence we firmly denounce. The statement was signed by Khalid Samad, Communication Director of Parti Amanah Negara, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Secretary General of the PKR, and Anthony Loke, Secretary of the DAP Organization.
The [PH] national secretariat urges immediate cessation of these acts of intimidation. Malaysia ‘s integrity must be protected and rescued against those who wish to hurt it for their own personal and political purposes
Last week, police said it was investigating Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh for allegedly posting a seditious and offensive comment back in March on Facebook, which the MP claimed was credited to her as a fabricated quotation.
A few days later, Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman said the police had called him to appear in Bukit Aman for interrogation regarding an interview aired on Al Jazeera, again back in March. The police called Kuala Langat MP Datuk Dr Xavier Jayakumar last month, following his alleged statement on the half-day parliamentary sitting with elements of sedition and provocation.
In response, police inspector-general Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said police’s decision to challenge a few political leaders was not the product of any organization or political party power. Abdul Hamid said the decision to speak to Bukit Aman’s lawmakers was not to detain or threaten them, but to allow them the room and chance to justify their side of the tale regarding complaints being lodged with them.
