The Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) has urged for joint efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in the country specifically to aim 16 on stability, justice and strong institutions.
Suharso Monoarfa, who is also Minister of National Development Planning, highlighted the promotion of peace, justice, and inclusiveness as the nature of SDG16 in the middle of discussion on “Solidarity and Unity between Citizens” as the Embodiment of SDG16 Indonesia to Grow from COVID-19.
He encouraged all people of the nation to take collective measures in order to achieve the goal, one of this is to create a peaceful society and prevent and end violence among citizens. He also stated that one of the most important components in the implementation of the main principles of the agenda is fostering an equitable society since besides creating a just society by solving the problems of justice that have been created and this is particularly during the pandemic.
He he continually embrace that to carry out the efforts, there needs to be cooperation between the government and non-governmental groups. Therefore, under the collective action agenda to help the achievement of the SDGs, numerous joint steps can be taken to resolve the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This kind of joint partnership needs to be more inclusive in the future and extend to different areas of sustainable development beyond the emphasis on health and post-pandemic economic recovery aspects. He then give credit to the projects and inventions carried out as part of efforts to tackle COVID-19 in the spirit of unity between the people.
In contrast of this, Monoarfa cited the efforts of community groups, including religious organizations, to provide community assistance in the form of free masks, essential necessities, and to inform the public on the importance of health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
