Sunday, at the Gunadarma University Karawaci in Tangerang, Indonesia, Woman National Master Antonella Berthe “Tonelle” Racasa placed third in the BKD Fide Rated International Open Chess Tournament Under 21.
Racasa finished the nine-round Swiss system competition with 6.0 points, tying for first place with four other competitors. However, upon the application of tiebreakers, she placed third, behind natives Angkouw Isaura Petra Maria and Lasama Ivana Maria Treopolsa.
Carissa Vioren and Nabila Aulia Putri, both of Indonesia, placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
In an online interview on Monday, the 15-year-old Racasa stated, “I am pleased, since this is my first international competition in two years.”
She overcame Tedisyah Arya Muhammad, Revalina Trianastasya, Davin Belmiro Azfar, Martogi Imanuel and Maulana Ezra Faletehan. Her contests against Kevin Theofilus Andreas and Hanun Nafisah resulted in a tie. In addition, she suffered two defeats at the hands of Nathanael Dieudonne B Simanihuruk and Rizky Akbar Muhammad.
She earned the silver medal in the blitz division in the Batang Pinoy National Championships held in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, in December of last year.
Victory Christian International School student Racasa stated, “I am looking forward to participating in more competitions this year.”
She intends to compete in the World School Chess Championships in Rhodes, Greece from April 13-23 and the World Youth Championships in Montesilvano, Italy from November 12-25.
In the boys’ section, the top three winners were all Indonesians. Syafiuddin Raden and first seed Dziththauly Ramadhan both scored 8.0 points, but Syafiuddin Raden won due to a stronger tiebreak. Stevanky’s tally of 7.5 points placed him in third place.
