PKR vice president Dr. Michael Teo said party branches Sabah and Sarawak voted to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the nominee for prime minister of the opposition. The Miri MP said the resolution of the two state chapters was compatible with the presidential council’s stance.

Keadilan Borneo appears to stand strong with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in maintaining and promoting the change agenda of Pakatan Harapan, as we march together towards the 15th General Election His declaration came after a stalemate resulting from the election of Parti Warisan Sabah member Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal as the nominee for prime minister of the opposition by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Also in Sabah, vice president Kenny Chua said he respected Anwar, adding that PH had told Malaysians that Anwar would be prime minister. In fact, PH was stuck in a stalemate between Anwar and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over his prime ministerial nominee before the latter declared his withdrawal from the contest in favor of Shafie last Saturday.
Dr. Mahathir said that the appointment of Shafie was a collective decision with DAP, Amanah, and Parti Warisan Sabah members during an informal meeting here on June 25 at the Ruman Tetamu Sabah. The members of DAP and Amanah later explained that the appointment of Shafie was not definitive but also has to go to the top central committee of their respective parties and the presidential council of PH.
