A woman gives birth to her daughter in her car during a traffic jam in Kota Kinabalu

Malaysia – On Wednesday (1 June), a pregnant lady who was in the middle of labor was unable to make it to the hospital in time because of a traffic congestion at Likas, which is located in Kota Kinabalu.

According to The Star, the woman, age 39, along with her husband were on their way to the Sabah Women and Children hospital when they were suddenly get stuck in the traffic jam.

They were fortunate enough to get assistance from the deputy director of the Sabah Fire and Rescue Department, Farhan Sufyan Borhan, who happened to be on his way to the state headquarters, which was around 500 meters away.

He was driving down the Lintas road when he saw the car parked on the side of the road, so he pulled over to check what happened. He was able to gently calm the lady down and then he called the fire department.

After the mother had managed to deliver a healthy baby girl in the vehicle at around 1:45 p.m., Farhan assisted the mom in tying off the umbilical cord of the newborn so that she could begin breastfeeding her.

The Emergency Medical Rescue Services (ERS) unit arrived immediately after the call was placed and has administered first aid to the woman and the infant before turning them over to the arriving paramedics in an ambulance.

According to Farhan, both the mother and the infant were in a stable condition and were now being monitored at Likas Hospital for further examination.

It wasn’t the first time he had to deal with a situation of this kind. He said that there have been a number of cases in the past when ladies have been forced to give birth at the fire station owing to difficulties with transportation.
