Adventure Awaits as Indonesia Explore in Electricity Production for Other Countries

Looking forward to what the year will bring, The Indonesian government is currently exploring electricity exports to Singapore. This is what the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Arifin Tasrif shared as there may be possible over-capacity of power supply in the region.

Tasrif highlighted that Indonesia has excess power supply, especially in the midst of the pandemic that has contributed to a decrease in power usage, speaking to legislators during a parliamentary hearing. So, in order to help the plan and encourage equitable power supply across the region, the government is seeking to increase inter-island connectivity.

Along with this, relocating current power plants is another solution for handling the problem of surplus power supply. In addition, as part of efforts to revive electricity use, the government will continue to allow people to use hybrid cars and stoves.

Relocation of the new power source, between 20 and 25 years of age, could take place in many locations that require it most, such as areas with potential for the smelter industry. Since it would be easier to use coal, and our economy would be more competitive.

Consequently, The future over-supply could also be provided by the already under-developed 35 thousand MW mega-power plant project and an additional 7 thousand MW of electricity from the previous project. In fact, the over-supply is going to be strong, about 40 to 60%. Our margin reserve could thus hit 50 percent of its 30 percent ideal number. Indeed, this export of power should conform with the solution.

Morever, Looking back, The governments of Indonesia and Bangladesh were reviewing their partnership arrangement to develop a power plant in Bangladesh. The power plant will be built by the state oil and gas company Pertamina and the state electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara.

For this reason, Thohir also talked of having addressed collaboration with Md Nurul Islam Sujon, the Minister of Railways of Bangladesh. For them, the cooperation is not limited to business-to-business, but also to educating individuals in Bangladesh. Thohir had previously expressed his desire to synergize with Indonesian ambassadors posted in a variety of countries in an attempt to find new buyers and to free up Indonesian export markets.

He pointed out that the instructions were issued by President Joko Widodo to Indonesian ambassadors. The president called on the ambassadors to concentrate 70-80% of their operations on the economic area.
