ASEAN endorsed the cancellation of 2020 Para Games

The ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) has officially decided to cancel the 2020 ASEAN Para Games in the Philippines this coming October due to the coronavirus pandemic and will just shift its focus on the following edition in 2021 at Vietnam.

The decision to cancel was endorsed by the APSF’s Board of Governors on a video conference meeting. President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of the Philippines Michael Barredo, chaired the meeting attended by 10 other representative of the Asean states.

According to the President of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of the Philippines Michael Barredo, the federation’s top decision-making body approved the cancellation after confirming the matter with the Philippines Sports Commission (PSC).

Philippines Sports Commission Board Secretary IV Julia C Llanto officially approved the cancellation of the said event so ensure protection and safety of all disabled athletes, coach, workforce and guest. This decision will also support the Philippine government’s effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. Vietnam will be hosting the next year’s edition of the Asean Para Games. It will be their second time in 18 years.
