Together with the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), the Bureau of Customs on Saturday said it has disposed of a shipment of food items found to be positive for African swine fever (ASF).

At the Integrated Waste Management facility in Trece Martires, Cavite on Feb. 7, food items such as dumplings, pork chicken balls and roast chicken wings were disposed of via thermolysis or thermal decomposition.

The said shipment, which was consigned to Dynamic M International Trading Inc., arrived from China on Dec. 11, 2019 at Manila International Container Port.

On 7 Dec. 2019 an alert order was issued.

BOC operatives confiscated the shipment on 24 January 2020 after a sample of pork-celery dumpling was found positive for ASF by the BAI’s Veterinary Quarantine Services.

The BOC said the food items were first desinfected by BAI before being transported for disposal to Cavite.
