On Sunday, February 5, pop artist Beyonce shattered the record for most career Grammy victories.

Renaissance earned the singer four Grammys, including best dance/electronic album, raising her career total to 32. This eclipsed the total victories of the late classical conductor Georg Solti.

“I am attempting to control my emotions. I am attempting to simply receive this evening,” Beyonce stated. “I am grateful to God for protecting me. Thank you, God.”

In addition, she praised her family and “the LGBTQ community for your support and for creating the genre.”

Previously, the vocalist was missing when “Cuff It” won best R&B song. Trevor Noah stated that she was caught in traffic. He eventually presented Beyonce with the prize at her place in the crowd.

Beyonce competed against a powerful and diverse field, including Bad Bunny, Styles, singer and flutist Lizzo, British vocalist Adele, and Swedish disco-era hitmakers ABBA.

Styles won the award for best pop vocal album with Harry’s House, which was also up for album of the year. This record, from beginning to end, has been the greatest experience of my life, Styles, 29, remarked while holding his Grammy.

Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican rapper, started the performance with a lively Spanish-language medley accompanied by hundreds of dancers. Noah stated, “Every time I listen to him, I discover hips I never knew I possessed.”

“I’ve never seen a room this packed with celebs,” he said, naming Adele, Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, and others sat in a Los Angeles downtown stadium.

Noah made a joke that Lizzo would perform throughout the performance at “bad b*tch o’clock,” a reference to her songs, and made light of Styles’ attire. Noah stated, “Women throw their ties at this man, who puts them on and looks better than they do.”

The event was televised live on the CBS network and the Paramount+ streaming service.

The honorees are chosen by roughly 11,000 members of the Recording Academy, which has faced complaints that it has not given Black talent proper recognition. In recent years, the group has tried to diversify its membership.

In the best new artist category, contenders include Italian rock band Maneskin, jazz artist Samara Joy, American bluegrass singer Molly Tuttle and TikTok phenom Gayle, who rose to fame with “abcdefu.”

The 10-minute version of Taylor Swift’s 2012 song “All Too Well” received the award for best music video. Her latest album, Midnights, was released after this year’s eligibility window, which ran from October 2021 through September 2022.

Like other awards shows, the Grammys have seen their television audience decline in recent years. Last year’s ceremony drew roughly 9 million viewers, the second-smallest on record.
