Recent research that has foreseen a concerning trend in Malaysia predicts that by 2035, most of its youth will be overweight. One worrying pattern is this one. This forecast is grounded in the nation’s existing trend of children’s health and lifestyle choices rather than in wild conjecture. This forecast is based on the current national trend of children’s health and lifestyle choices.
Many different events have led to the development of this approaching disaster. Urbanization is having the effect of kids utilizing electronics more indoors. This has made people live more and more inactive lives, which has increased the frequency of such lives. Moreover, the abundance of reasonably priced processed foods and the spread of fast food franchises have made bad eating habits the rule rather than the exception.
Perhaps the strongest weapon we have at our disposal to buck this tendency is education. The incredible chance that schools have to influence students’ lifestyle decisions starts early and lasts through their adolescent years. Many things might make a big difference, such as offering wholesome meal alternatives, promoting exercise, and including nutrition education into the curriculum.
Education must, however, be backed by strict policies and execution procedures if it is to be an efficient remedy as well. Legislation prohibiting the promotion of unhealthy foods to minors should be in place. The government should also invest in school facilities to facilitate student participation in physical education. Teachers should also get training to enhance their capacity to impart health education to their charges.
To so alter the path that our children’s destiny will take, we must act now. The goal of giving our younger generation’s health and well-being first priority must be achieved by cooperation among various stakeholders, including parents, educators, politicians, and members of the society at large.
