Big leaps into the internet technology future kicked off with the launch of the world’s first commercial network for selling 10G broadband services by China. It was in Sunan County, in Hebei Province, where the breakthrough hit the market.
The super-fast broadband is a joint project between telecom giant Huawei and the state-run company China Unicom. Building the next-generation broadband system does go further than promises of close to 10,000 Mbps download speed-that’s almost 10 times faster than the high-speed internet many people use today.
How Fast is 10G?
- Want a 20GB 4K movie downloaded? With your average 1Gbps connection, it could take 7-10 minutes, but with 10G, you’d be looking at an almost instantaneous 15-20 seconds. It’s fast — almost instant.
- This speed is primarily due to the new technology called the 50G Passive Optical Network (PON), through which traditional fiber optics perform much better. Like going from a standard car to a supercar on the same road.
What Are You Going to Do With This Speed?
- Smooth, real-time Virtual reality (VR) and Augmented reality (AR)
- 8K streaming, like almost watching life on screen
- Cloud gaming and computing in real-time
- Smarter, more efficient home
- Online classes and telehealth consultation-live with no hype
- Farming agri-tech utilizing big data and AI
This launching ceremony will hype up-the lineage of not only fast internet but, most notably, fast broadband. Indeed, in comparison among the illustrious hypes in the globe like UAE and Qatar for speed, China leaves them behind in the broadband race.
