According to the US Department of Defense, China has now produced the most sophisticated supply of hypersonic weapons in the world allowing it to carry out long combat operations in the Indo-Pacific area. India’s security concerns would undoubtedly grow as a result.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is working to build the capacity to “deter or defeat third party intervention in the Indo Pacific region if ordered,” according to the Pentagon’s annual report to Congress. India’s security concerns would undoubtedly grow as a result.

The PLA is concentrating on improving its capacity to carry out military actions both locally and internationally as per the annual report. China has developed hypersonic gliders that can strike military installations in the Western Pacific. The problem is that these sophisticated weapons pose a serious threat because they are nearly hard to catch with the defenses in place today.

China is utilizing hypersonic missile technology to defeat anti ballistic missile systems and increase its reach over the Pacific ocean. These missiles are capable of travelling at speeds surpassing Mach 5. They are therefore challenging to identify and intercept. The trajectory of hypersonic glide vehicles (HGVs) can change after launch by making defenses more difficult. This makes them more deadly.

According to the Pentagon’s recent concerning assessment of China’s missile advancements, US territories including Alaska and Hawaii are also at risk. However, because of its proximity, India is in a more vulnerable position. Short and medium range missiles from China pose a danger to Indian military installations along the disputed Line of Actual Control (LAC) with ease. India’s security concerns are further heightened by the ongoing border disputes and previous violent clashes with China.

China poses a serious threat to India’s national security because of its missile projects which increase its influence over the Indian subcontinent. Notably, Indian military installations might be readily targeted by short range ballistic and cruise missiles stationed close to the LAC. As tensions with China and Pakistan increased resulted to place India in a vulnerable position.
