PETALING JAYA – Another 123 Covid-19 cases and the 10th death were recorded from the disease, says Health Ministry.
Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 34 of the new cases were linked to a religious gathering held late last month. 74 patients were traced while the’re still tracking the other participants.
He said 62% of the country’s Covid-19 cases were linked to the tabligh cluster. The latest fatality is a 74-year-old man attended the Sri Petaling mosque tabligh gathering.
Dr Noor Hisham said the ninth death involved a 48-year-old health ministry staff member who has a travel history from Turkey.
“The ministry would like to express its condolences to their family members, ” he added.
Twenty-five patients recovered bringing the total number to 139. The ministry will be providing mental health services and psychosocial support for them and their families who were affected by the crisis. Malaysia currently has the highest number of cases in Southeast Asia.
