Covid-19: Malaysia now has confirmed 117 cases

KUALA LUMPUR – From 99 cases, the Ministry of Health has issued a statement that Covid-19 cases soar to 117 as at writing, March 9.

Director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the patient identified as case 101 is a businessman with a travel history to Iran from Feb 20 to 27 with his business partner.

In a report, Dr Noor Hisham said that the symptoms were shown on March 5, the patient was tested positive on March 8, and is now under isolation and receives treatment at Hospital Tuanku Jaafar, Negri Sembilan.

At the press meeting today, the director general confirmed that the additional 18 cases makes the positive cases to 117. From the total, 19 are identified as patient-under-investigation (PUI), 96 from close contact and two more from humanitarian missions.

From the second wave of cases, that is case 23 to 117, only six were found PUI and had travel history outside the country. While the rest were involved in the cluster from the same close contacts and so were linked to one another.

He also shared that two cases were placed in the ICU since yesterday at Hospital Sungai Buloh and Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor with breathing ventilators.

However, when asked further details for Case 26, Dr Noor Hisham will not disclose any information about the patients.  based on the Code of Professional Conduct of the Medical Act 1971 (Amendment 2012). This states that medical practitioners must ensure the confidentiality of a patient’s personal information is maintained unless the patient discloses his or her information voluntarily.

He also said that the MoH is currently conducting Covid-19 surveillance to discover any sporadic and local cases in the country through influenza-like-illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) patients, with no history of traveling to affected countries or been in contact with those positive Covid-19 cases. So far, there are no detected positive to Covid19 from 574 samples collected.
