Dentist Refuses to Use Cocaine for Treatment

Investigators intend to use scientific evidence that the chemical substances contained in the blood of Red Bull scion Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya may be related to the use of cocaine to see whether they may lodge a drug use charge against him.

Meanwhile, the dentist who received dental care for Red Bull scion Vorayuth “Boss” Yoovidhya declined to use cocaine in his dentistry after police said there could be a misconception about police testimony on drug use.

Pol Gen Satawat Hiranburana, a special advisor to the Royal Thai Police, who heads a police committee appointed to investigate why the police and prosecutors agreed to drop all charges against Mr Vorayuth in the hit-and – run case, said on Friday that the blood test results from Mr Vorayuth were obtained by the officers handling the case on 11 Oct 2012.

Physicians at Ramathibodi Hospital and Police General Hospital Institute of Forensic Medicine found four types of substances in Mr Vorayuth ‘s body, Pol Gen Satawat said, citing the test results. Four of the substances came from sleeping pills and coffee and the rest came triggered by cocaine and alcohol digestion.

Nevertheless, the investigators concluded that there was no real cocaine detected in Mr Vorayuth ‘s blood, and that there was no other evidence against him, so the police did not bring charges against him relating to illegal drug use, Pol Gen Satawat stated this referring to the accounts of investigators. Concerning the testimony of the police before the House Committee, Pol Gen Satawat said that he assumed that it could be a misunderstanding.

The next move, he said, is to ask medical experts at the Ministry of Public Health to ascertain the source of the two substances. When it is found they are drugs, Pol Gen Satawat said he would ask the National Police Chief to take action. The vice-president of the Dental Council, Padate Tangngamsakul, insisted on Friday that cocaine is not used by dental practitioners because it is drugs.

Asked if the dental council would invite the dentist to provide details, Dr. Padate said the dentist needed time to plan since the incident occurred nearly eight years ago. Piyada Prasertsom, director of the Department of Health’s dental health office under the Ministry of Public Health, said on Friday that cocaine hasn’t been used in dentistry for over a century.

Natchanon Srikokuea, spokesman for the House Police Affairs Committee, told a press briefing that the panel had questioned officers who handled the case as to why they did not bring charges against Mr Vorayuth relating to illicit drug use in spite of a positive blood test proving the use of narcotics.

Former senator Rosana Tositrakool petitioned parliament president Chuan Leekpai to scrutinize a panel working on the hit-and-run case in the National Legislative Assembly (NLA).

Ms. Rosana called on the president of the parliament to use his authority to reveal details about the handling of the case by the NLA panel. Society needed to know whether the prosecutor’s decision to drop charges against Mr Vorayuth was the result of an inquiry by the panel.
