Thirty persons under investigation (PUIs) in the Philippines have tested negative for the deadly virus based on confirmatory tests for potential novel coronavirus infection.
Duque said the country has reported 80 PUIs so far — including the first two confirmed cases, the 30 that tested negative and 48 others that are pending laboratory test results.
The increase in the number was due to the improved monitoring system at the DOH.
He added that the DOH has broadened the reach of the PUI category — considering a suspicious case to every part of China for all patients with travel history.
Currently 67 PUIs are admitted to hospitals across the country, while 10 others have been discharged.
Last Wednesday one of the PUIS’ died. According to Duque, later he tested negative for novel coronavirus.
The first confirmed case of novel coronavirus in the world was a Chinese female national from Wuhan City, China— the center of the outbreak. She is now admitted to Hospital San Lazaro in Manila.
Her partner, the second confirmed case in the country, died last Saturday — becoming the first foreign fatality.
The virus has killed 350 people in China as of Monday, where most of the more than 11,000 infected are found.
