PUTRAJAYA – Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad welcomed the chief of the Palestinian militant group Hamas and his delegation at his office at Perdana Putra here. This will be his first official trip to Malaysia since becoming the organization’s top leader in 2017.
During his courtesy call in the prime minister’s office, Ismail Haniyeh praised Mahathir for supporting the Palestinian people and openly criticizing Israel. He also said that Malaysia has a very special position in the Islamic world.
He also thanked the prime minister for bringing fresh and innovative ideas for the Islamic world through the organising of the Kuala Lumpur Summit held last year. The U.S. State Department and Israel has listed Hamas as a foreign terrorist organization conducting suicide bombings against Israeli civilian and military targets.
