President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to make new pronouncements as he meets anew in the country on Monday afternoon with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on emerging infectious diseases, military and police officials following a continuous increase in cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
In a bid to contain the virus, Duterte approved the imposition of Community quarantine on Metro Manila.
The group quarantine is preventing ground, domestic air, and domestic sea travel to and from Metro Manila from March 15 through April 14.
The President also extended the suspension of class at schools in Metro Manila until April 12.
Health officials have reported 140 cases, including 12 deaths, linked to COVID-19, a respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus that first appeared in Wuhan, China’s province of Hubei, at the end of 2019.
Duterte also held a meeting with the mayors of IATF and Metro Manila early last week after he declared a state of emergency for public health due to COVID-19 attacks.
