“Fashion Industry Alleviating the Scarcity of PPE”

PPE or Personal Protective Equipment is one of the most important shield to beat the coronavirus among health wokers.

Due to increase cases of COVID19, healthcare workers began to plead the government to provide them enough stocks. They beg for this call because they don’t have enough security gear to sacrifice their life every day to save the life of others.

EPPs or Personal Protective Products for healthcare staff expected to be exposed to novel 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients consist of gowns, helmets, eye safety, gloves and shoe coverings.

In the face of this crisis, Netizens started to question the budget. But Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, who stood in the center of the Congress floor with what seems to be a hastily-assembled Manila paper sign to announce that he did his part by coming to work that day, ignored the PPE shortage by claiming that other reports regarding the shortages are fraudulent and misleading the public from contributing to facilities that genuinely need it.

On the other hand, The Vice President’s Office has initiated an online fundraiser program for EPPs and care packages to provide food for healthcare employees. Despite contributions from OVP’s fundraiser affiliate Ticket2Me hitting P12,001,446.96 as of March 24, along with additional funds from the vice president’s office and other contributors to a total of more than P23 million, they have now hit 38 hospitals and community centers in Metro Manila, Tarlac, Batangas, Camarines Sur, and Quezon Province, with 17,100 PPE sets of health staff. Other attempts are still being made by local organizations and big corporations, all working together to support those who work in direct contact with patients with CCOVID-19.

While these figures are large, they won’t be adequate to meet all the needs of healthcare staff and other frontline employees across the country. That has led to another group standing up, and they are the fashion industry leaders who use their clothing and design experience to supply the front-liners with the requisite publicity.

Domz Ramos, known for his swimwear creations on the beauty pageant circuit, has created colorful face masks, some of which have already been provided to the Philippine General Hospital, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Children’s Hospital and Qualimed Hospital.

Michaelleyva will be sending our heroes body suit, and headmasks.

Rajo Laurel takes a vibrant approach by designing hazmat suits and sourcing robust products in order to be able to mass-them at his House of Laurel. Along with his hazmat drawings. With designers like Michael, Domz and Rajo pitching in for our committed front liners, here’s hope that helping out will become trendy particularly in a crisis situation
