Former MIC president’s son joins Warisan, claims multicultural parties are the future

Malaysia – S. Sunther, the son of former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam, has shifted political allegiances to Parti Warisan Sabah, claiming that multiracial parties are the way ahead.

Sunther, who served on the MIC central working committee for two terms, said in a report that he had already begun preparations to assist develop his new political party.

“I joined Warisan because I believe in the company’s mission and strategic direction. Now, I’m concentrating on how I can contribute to my new political party and how to develop a strong grassroots apparatus to enable me to better serve the people.

“I honestly believe that a multiracial political party is required to build a truly unified Malaysia — not by putting aside race and religion, but by embracing and accepting our diversity.

“Heritage represents the integration of people of all races and from all walks of life. “I’m certain that I can play a significant part (in this),” he was reported as adding.

It was also stated that the 43-year-old managing director of the Tamil newspaper Makkal Osai expressed his willingness to collaborate with MIC for the benefit of the Indian community.

Moreover, Sunther disclosed that the followers of his father had given him their approval to join the Warisan coalition.

He went on to say that he believed his decision to transfer parties paralleled the political trajectory of Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

As an Umno MP, Shafie was initially elected to the Parliament in 1995, and he went on to serve as the party’s president for a number of years after that.

According to him, things happen in life and Warisan was established as a result of people’s willingness to adapt and alter for the greater good of the country. He also added that he sees Warisan as his present and the future of this country.

Initially formed as a state-level opposition party in 2016, Warisan gained national recognition in October of the previous year after achieving state-level success.

According to reports, the party has a positive working relationship with the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda), which is headed by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman.
