Starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Indira Tiwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Pahwa, Jim Sarbh and numerous others, Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial ‘Gangubai Kathiyawadi’ has proved to be a major success at the 69th National Film Awards 2023.
The winners were announced at 5 pm on Thursday, with Bhatt winning the National Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the 2022 project surrounding Gangubai, one of the most respected and powerful madams from Kamathipura during the 1960s.
Bhatt shares the award with Kriti Sanon, who was honoured for her work in ‘Mimi’ – depicting the story of a woman who harbours big dreams and reluctantly agrees to become a surrogate for a couple. When troubles pile up, the character, played by Sanon, must face some tough decisions.

Bhatt And Sanon Congratulate Each Other On Social Media
In her note of gratitude on her social media platforms, Bhatt dedicated the win to the film’s director Bhansali, the entire crew, her family and the audience. She shared the post with a few pictures of herself doing the famous Gangu pose.
“I do not take moments like these lightly,” the actor added, while penning down a few lines about sharing the award with Sanon. Recollecting the day when she watched ‘Mimi’ and messaged her fellow Bollywood star, Bhatt wrote, “It was such an honest and powerful performance.”
The ‘Mimi’ star also shared a special message for Bhatt as she congratulated her on the big win. Sanon took to her Instagram, expressing her admiration for Bhatt’s work in the film and excitement for getting to share the huge moment with the actor.
