Greyson Chance, who was once Ellen DeGeneres’ protégé, asserts that he has “never met someone more manipulative, more self-centered, and more blatantly opportunistic than her.”
The Oklahoma native, who is now 25 years old and was featured on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in May 2010 when he was just 12 years old as a result of a viral video of him performing Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi” in front of his schoolmates, reflected on his life and career in a bombshell interview with Rolling Stone that was published on Thursday. The interview was published online.
In an interview with the publication, he stated, “We just couldn’t believe what was happening. Ellen was the person who helped cure all of that skepticism and chaotic energy,” said Greyson. “We were so uncertain about what we were getting into.”
According to the musician, when Ellen DeGeneres and he first met, she vowed to him that she would look out for his best interests. You can count on me to support you in any way I can. We are going to tackle this challenge together.
Not long after that, she co-founded the record label eleveneleven, which is distributed by Interscope Geffen A&M Records, and signed Chance as the label’s first act. She not only provided him with connections to high-profile managers but also a booking agent, a publicist, and a brand agent.
In October of 2010, Chance issued a short-form extended play (mini EP). According to him, DeGeneres “became dominant and way too controlling” as his touring schedule became more demanding.
“With just one text message from her, my entire week, my entire month, and even my entire year could be turned upside down. That was horrible,” he claimed, adding that he quickly learned that DeGeneres’ opinions were the only ones that mattered.
Chance’s recollection of the relationship, on the other hand, has been refuted by a person with close ties to Ellen DeGeneres, who stated that the comedian went above and beyond for the young musician, pointing out that some careers just don’t get off the ground.
While Chance was on tour as Miranda Cosgrove’s opening act, Ellen DeGeneres, who is 64 years old, was able to get her hands on an advance copy of the documentary “Never Say Never” starring Justin Bieber. According to Chance, who admittedly was exhausted at the time, DeGeneres wanted him to watch it as soon as possible because she wanted him to pattern his career after that of the immensely successful pop star.
According to the singer, when she found out that he had not made watching the movie a priority, DeGeneres called the singer’s mother, Lisa, and criticized her.
He recalled hearing the comedian allegedly ask his mother, “What kind of mother are you?” before she allegedly said to him directly, “Disappointed isn’t even remotely what I’m feeling right now.”
At that precise moment, the rising star had that thought: “OK, you used me as a pawn in your game.”
Chance has stated that DeGeneres’ wrath, which has been widely rumored, has permeated every aspect of his career. “She would come in and look at a rack, yell at stylists, berate people in front of me, and then say, ‘This is what you’re wearing on the show,'” he claimed. “She was nothing but insulting to other people.”
