“At a Confessional” a live action movie based on an episode of Hirohiko Araki’s Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe manga series will debut in Japanese theaters on May 23rd 2025. A teaser trailer and two teaser images were released along with the opening date of the movie’s were posted on official website and X (previously Twitter).
One of the primary characters from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable, Rohan Kishibe is at the heart of the series. Rohan approaches a confessional box in a Venice church while researching his manga in Italy. In order to purify their souls, people go to a confession to confess their “sins” to a priest.
This idea intrigues Rohan who chooses to have his own confessional experience. He inadvertently walks into the priest’s side of the booth though. Shortly after, a man walks into the confessional and starts telling about a terrible thing that happened twenty five years ago. Inspired by his interest and his conviction that “experience breathes reality into art,” Rohan pretends to be the priest and pays close attention to the man’s confession.
Issei Takahashi played Rohan in the live action drama series which aired on NHK in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024. The 1st movie which was released in May 2023 “Rohan at the Louvre” (Rohan au Louvre) brought in 1.25 billion yen (7.91 million USD) in Japan.
Issei Takahashi returns to the role of Rohan Kishibe. Kyoka Izumi who is a female editor at Weekly Shonen Jump who oversees Rohan is another new character played by Marie Iitoyo.
Some of the most well known sites in Venice, Italy including Piazza San Marco, San Rocco Church, Pescaglia Market, Punta della Dogana, Barbarigo Minotto Palace, Pallozzo da Mosto and Santi Giovanni e Paolo Square which also featured in the original manga were filmed throughout the entire movie.
