JOHOR BARU – Cross-border travel between the two countries under the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA) is allowed from Aug 17, following a historic meeting between Malaysia and Singapore in The Causeway.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein met Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and both announced a joint statement that both countries will be allowing cross-border travel after they have reached agreement on key details of RGL and PCA during the meeting.

Hishammuddin said that permit to travel under RGL and PCA could be submitted as early as Aug 10. He urged Malaysians to follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) set upon by both government.
The Foreign Minister added that if this initiative is sucessful, both countries will make another discussion to open cross-border travel to other nations.
Singapore stated that for them to reopen the border to other nations, Malaysia need to increase the testing capacity to around 250,000 travellers on a daily basis.
The Causeway caters 350,000 travellers daily. Over 107.9 million people used the Causeway and Second Link.
Hishammuddin said RGL and PCA will be used by the country as template for a possible opening up of the country’s border with other nations under the ‘’green bubble travel category”. The countries includes Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Koreaand Vietnam. RGL will allow 400 Malaysians and Singaporeans to do cross-border travel each week, while PCA will allow some 2,000 travellers to use The Causeway and the Second link daily.
