Ray Stevenson, an actor who starred in popular TV series including Rome, Vikings, and Dexter, has passed away at the age of 58. His roles in the Divergent trilogy, the Thor film series, and several UK television shows like Band of Gold, Peak Practice, and Murphy’s Law made him well-known.
His publicist company, Viewpoint, located in the US, informed the BBC of his passing without offering any other information. He was apparently hospitalized during filming on the Italian island of Ischia, however the cause of death remains unknown.

He featured in the 2011 Marvel movie Thor as Volstagg, one of Thor’s dependable allies. He performed Porthos in Paul W. S. Anderson’s rendition of The Three Musketeers the same year.
A made-up character named Volstagg appears in American comic books produced by Marvel Comics. He is a founding member of the Warriors Three, a group of Asgardian explorers who serve as Thor’s supporting cast. He is renowned for having several kids.
In the 2008 Marvel film “Punisher: War Zone,” Stevenson played the titular mercenary, Frank Castle. Before Disney bought the rights to the Marvel world and subsequently reintroduced the character in the Netflix series “Daredevil,” the movie was released in North America by Lionsgate.
Stevenson, the third actor to portray The Punisher, took on the role. The vigilante made his direct-to-video debut in 1989 with Dolph Lundgren, and Thomas Jane filled the role for 2004’s R-rated “Punisher.”
Despite having a $35 million budget, the PG-13 reincarnation of the series “War Zone” only brought in $10.1 million at the box office. Later, Jon Bernthal took up the part in the Netflix shows “The Punisher” and “Daredevil”.
Stevenson had cameos in box office hits like Marvel’s “Thor” and Lionsgate’s “Divergent” as well as action movies like “The Book of Eli,” “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” and “The Three Musketeers” in the 2010s.
In his second Marvel movie, Stevenson played Volstagg, an Asgardian hero and one of the Warriors Three who helped Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
He was a character in the first three “Thor” movies until Cate Blanchett’s wicked Hela murdered him in “Thor: Ragnarok.”
In the “Divergent” movie series, Stevenson played Marcus Eaton, the faction’s leader on the city council and the father of Four (Theo James).
