Humanitarian Spirit of UAE Shines Through Global Winter Relief Efforts
The UAE continues its efforts to mitigate the effects of winter and the bitter cold on a large segment of people around the world, especially displaced people and refugees who were forced to leave their homes and live in tents.
With the onset of winter this year, the UAE has launched a series of humanitarian and relief campaigns to deliver supplies and needs that contribute to protecting those affected by the repercussions of low temperatures in many countries embodying the authentic humanitarian values and spirit of the leadership and people of the UAE who have never hesitated to provide relief to the needy and afflicted wherever they are.
The UAE carried out one of its campaigns the day before yesterday to distribute winter clothing to residents of shelter camps in the southern Gaza Strip as part of the largest phase of Operation “Gallant Knight 3”, the largest relief project in the Gaza Strip. The campaign targeted the largest gathering of displaced persons in the southern Gaza Strip around Al-Aqsa University in Khan Yunis and 12,500 people benefited from it.
Since the beginning of the current winter, the UAE has been keen to deliver winter clothing, tents, waterproof covers, jackets, blankets and gloves to help Palestinian children and families affected by the situation in the Gaza Strip and to work to alleviate the suffering of the affected groups to confront the severe cold.
The Emirates Red Crescent Authority has been implementing a winter aid program to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable groups in countries known for their cold and fluctuating weather during the winter in addition to refugees inside and outside camps who face harsh natural conditions. Last November, the Authority launched a winter aid campaign benefiting 250,000 people around the world in order to reduce the repercussions of cold weather especially in countries hosting refugees.
The campaign includes distributing large quantities of food and health parcels, winter clothes, heating devices and materials, blankets, children’s supplies and other shelter materials. On December 22nd, the Authority implemented the “Winter Clothing” campaign in a number of remote and desert areas in the Yemeni governorate of Shabwa with the aim of providing clothes and necessary winter needs to the poorest families, displaced persons and nomads who were affected by the severe cold wave that swept the governorate.
On January 8th, the Authority announced the completion of its preparations to send a new shipment of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip represented by winter clothing as part of the UAE’s efforts to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip through the “Gallant Knight 3” humanitarian operation. In the Republic of Albania, the Authority through its office distributed winter aid to 2,415 beneficiaries in several governorates including wood stoves and blankets to help those affected cope with the low temperatures and severe cold.
The Authority implemented a winter relief campaign for those affected by the severe cold wave and heavy snow that hit large areas in the Republic of Kazakhstan and provided humanitarian aid to 7,500 beneficiaries in a number of regions.
In October, the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation began implementing the “Winter Bag” initiative doubling the number of beneficiaries to reach 50,000 bags compared to 20,000 winter bags last winter season. This year, the initiative includes 19 countries around the world namely Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq, Syria, the Gaza Strip, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Russia, Tatarstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tanzania, Mongolia, Nepal, Afghanistan and Kosovo.
The winter bag included blankets, clothes and other necessities that contribute to protecting those affected from the repercussions of low temperatures and severe cold and reducing the spread of winter diseases especially among children.
The Dubai Charity Association launched the “Their Winter is Warm with Your Giving” campaign to confront the dangers of the winter of 2024-2025 in many countries outside the country in Asia, Africa and Europe in coordination with its representatives from local authorities in these countries. The campaign aims to provide basic needs for families such as blankets, winter clothes, fuel, coal, heaters, water heaters, heating networks for mosques and homes for the poor and other needs that contribute to protecting those affected from the repercussions of low temperatures and reducing the spread of winter diseases.
With a donation from Dubai Islamic Bank, the humanitarian partner of the association’s projects, the Sharjah Charity Association launched the “Datheroni” campaign in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The campaign aims to protect more than 7,000 beneficiaries from the two countries from frost and severe cold by distributing heavy clothes and blankets, in addition to various heating methods that protect them from the winter cold.
