Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, has said that her country plays a crucial leadership role in the green transition toward a low-carbon economy.
On Tuesday, Sri Mulyani Indrawati talked about Indonesia’s long-term climate resilience and low-carbon strategy. While attending the High-Level G20 India side event, she highlighted the importance of the green economy.
According to the Indonesian Finance Minister, Indonesia is committed to achieving zero emission by 2060. She revealed that Indonesia increased cooperation with other stakeholders, through the Green Climate Fund, Global Environmental Facility and Adaptation Fund.
The High-Level G20 India side event — Seminar Achieving Growth-Friendly Climate Action and Financing for Emerging and Developing Economies — under India’s Presidency took place 17-18 July, 2023.
The meeting is part of G20’s third Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governor Meeting (FMCBG) agenda in India. The event witnessed the participation of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of the G20 members, guest countries, and heads of International Organisations. Around 520 participants across 66 delegations attended the meeting. The leaders discussed the challenging condition of the global economy.
During the meeting, the Finance Minister of Indonesia highlighted the improvement in Indonesia’s economic performance. She noted that Indonesia manages various global policies and maintains its interests at the global level.
Sri Mulyani Indrawati met with India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on the sidelines of the G20 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. They announced the launch of an Economic and Financial Dialogue in order to facilitate better cooperation between India and Indonesia.
The Indian Finance Minister said, “Since the adoption of India’s ‘Look East Policy’ in 1991, and the ‘Act East Policy’ in the subsequent years, there has been a rapid development in bilateral relations between India and Indonesia.”
Indrawati expressed happiness over stronger bilateral relations between India and Indonesia.
