Is this the end for Mission: Impossible Franchise?

With a step higher in drama and action than its predecessors, Mission: Impossible – Fallout was unquestionably a brilliant addition to the Mission: Impossible franchise. Also, the great casting of Henry Cavill as famed fanatic August Walker, who seeks to establish a new world order, increased interest in the movie among viewers.

Riding high on the favorable reviews and commercial success, renowned studio Paramount Pictures wasted no time in setting the direction for the franchise’s upcoming films.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1 was not exempt from the fury of novel pandemic-related delays in development and post-production as the worldwide pandemic ravaged the entertainment industry.

However, things got better, and now the fans are eagerly anticipating the July 14, 2023, release of the latest Mission: Impossible film, followed by the 2024 release of Mission: Impossible 8. Naturally, as the release date draws nearer, fans are being inundated with teasers, trailers, and behind-the-scenes information.

Chance of MI 9?

About the franchise’s future, director Christopher McQuarrie has been giving ambiguous signals. “Let me tell you, I’ve worked with Tom Cruise for 15 years and I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve been standing next to the man, witnessed an event, and then read about it in the trades the next day and none of what they describe is actually true,” the director said in response to a question about the rumors that the franchise would end after M:I8 on an episode of the podcast Light the Fuse.

MI Dead Reckoning

Dead Reckoning’s plot has so far been well guarded secret. But, McQuarrie did mention using Fallout as an inspiration and giving each character in forthcoming installments the same emotional narrative on the Light the Fuse podcast. We will have to wait for now to see how it develops for Hunt and other people.

The director even speculates that characters from Ethan’s past will reappear and alter the path of his life in an interview with Empire Magazine. There are a lot of things coming out of Ethan’s history, he remarked. Dead Reckoning is a word used in navigation. It implies that you’re deciding on a direction simply based on your most recent situation, which serves as a great metaphor for multiple characters—not just Ethan.
