Japan led Group C with nine points while Australia ranked behind them by two points after winning 5-1 against Indonesia at home. Under coach Hajime Moriyasu, Japan won early enough in European qualifiers so it could take its spot from the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.

Iran took a significant step toward their fourth World Cup consecutive appearance after beating UAE 2-0 while Uzbekistan secured their best chance ever to reach the World Cup when they won 1-0 against Kyrgyzstan. South Korea lost their advantage over Oman as they drew 1-1 when Hwang Hee-chan scored first before Ali Al-Busaidi made it 1-1 for Oman.
