Leaders urge public to follow Covid-19 SOPs on Interstate travel

Malaysia – People are advised not to loosen their guard and to continue following the standard operating procedures (SOP) even if interstate travel is permitted beginning tomorrow.

According to Senior Defense Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s twitter post, the first line of defense starts with us.

Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (Mosti) urged the people not to get complacent and to continue adhering to SOPs.

Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Minister of Environment and Water also congratulated the Malaysian Family and frontliners on the good news in a tweet.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong said that the government has kept its commitment to enable interstate travel to begin after 90 percent of the adult population had received all recommended vaccines.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin said during a press conference that the government’s lifting of interstate travel restrictions did not automatically imply the Melaka state election will be conducted.

She said that they should await the (Yang di-Pertuan) Agong’s judgment on the Melaka state elections and added that the Cabinet will then follow.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the chairman of UMNO urged the Malaysian citizens to follow the government’s instructions and to perform self-Covid-19 screening tests before going to travel.

“For individuals who are experiencing symptoms, it is preferable to postpone (the trip) until they have fully recovered.” We should check to see whether we are infected with anything. Considering all we’ve sacrificed so far, waiting a little longer to guarantee that we may safely see our father, mother, husband, wife, siblings, and friends in the village isn’t a big sacrifice. “We should take responsibility for this crucial matter.” As he put it, “we should not allow such short-term pleasure to cause us to be disappointed in the future.” He was quoted saying.
