Both the Asian countries, Malaysia and Japan share their long term relationship since 1957. The Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim met the Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the Bilateral Meeting held at Lima. PM Ibrahim stated that the diplomatic discussion for the cooperation of the two countries including different sectors, like trade, energy transition, security, maritime, defence, culture and education. Malaysian President Anwar Ibrahim guaranteed Japan PM Ishiba to strengthen their relationship during its ASEAN Chairmanship.

“I begin by congratulating you on your re-appointment as Prime Minister of Japan.

In this meeting, we were both able to assess the progress of cooperation between the two countries covering various fields including trade, energy transition, defense and security, maritime, education, culture and the development of rare earth elements.

We also discussed regional issues related to the South China Sea and the situation in Myanmmar.

We both also touched on other issues that are of mutual interest including Japan supporting Malaysia as ASEAN Chairman 2025.

I also invited PM Ishiba to visit Malaysia as soon as possible. I hope that the relationship between Malaysia and Japan continues to be strengthened so as to be able to attract more investment for the progress and potential of the country’s economy”

Through all these years, Malaysia’s strongest investor is Japan and they turned infallible trade partners for the benefit and upliftment of both the countries.
