KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has started investigations on how Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had accumulated almost RM1 billion in assets.
MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya said that MACC probe is underway against the former Federal Territories minister known as Ku Nan who had declaired over RM900 million in assets when he served under three prime ministers.
Ku Nan admitted that he had declared his wealth amounting to RM938,643,566.17 to the prime minister in 2001 and made similar declarations in 2006 (RM711,325,822) and in 2013 (RM691,770,649) and finally in 2016 (RM782,748,061).
The former Federal Territories minister said in his corruption trial that the RM2 million he allegedly received from businessman Tan Sri Chai Kin Kong was just pocket change for him as he claimed he sold most of his companies worth hundreds of millions before becoming a full minister. Latheefa said MACC viewed the statement in court as a very serious matter and require a call for an investigation.
