KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad appears to retract his claim that he will not be participating in the 15th general election, saying his supporters still want him to continue as a elected official.
The 95-year-old said that he may consider leading his newly form party Pejuang Tanah Air in the next election as his supporters ‘want him not to say they he won’t contest’.
Dr. Mahathir Mohamad to the Singapore’s Strait Times that he is now likely to contest because his proposal no to run caused a lot of unhappiness among his supporters.
Mahathir announced last week that he would still fight corruption under his newly form party but said he would not be contesting in the next election.
This new announcement brings the possibility that Dr. Mahathir could run again in the next election if the snap election be called.
Mahathir agreed that most people at 95 would not be functional and that he is fortunate that he still able to be active. According to the last elections for the new speaker in the parliament, Current prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin holds a 111-109 advantage in Parliament, or a mere two seats.
