Malaysia scraps quarantine at home

PETALING JAYA – Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced today that travellers coming from overseas will have to go mandatory quarantine at hotels and designated centers starting Friday.

The Senior Minister noted that the decision was finalized following a meeting with ministers. The requirements applies to both Malaysians and Non-Malaysian citizens who have been permitted to visit the country.

Under current protocols, returnees who tested negative for the swab test will have to go 2 weeks mandatory quarantine at home. This option will cease to exist on Friday.

The new protocol has to do with the recent rise of cases over the past few days where six of the 21 news cases came from overseas.

Sabri said that the government that non-compliance of home quarantine resulted to the further spread of the virus to the communities.

The cost of the accomodation during the mandatory period should be shouldered by the invidual. The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and the Ministry of Health were also assigned providing the list of hotel and designated quarantine areas.
