Malaysian actor and director Farid Kamil Zahari wins his appeal.

The 13-month prison sentence imposed on actor-turned-director Farid Kamil Zahari three years ago for using criminal force to prevent a police officer from doing his job and disorderly behavior at a police station has been replaced with an RM5,500 fine.

According to Free Malaysia Today, Judicial Commissioner Nurulhuda Nur’aini Mohamad Nor approved the replacement after an appeal by Farid.

Nurulhuda allegedly said that she considered the appellant’s payment of compensation in the form of a compound to two individuals, including the police officers, for inflicting harm.

Farid also offered an apology during his trial, demonstrating his repentance.

Nurulhuda then substituted an RM5,000 fine for the 13-month prison sentence for using criminal force and an RM500 fine for the four-month jail term for disruptive behavior.

The fine was paid by Farid, who was represented by Kee Wei Lon and Low Wei Loke.

Magistrate Nor Ariffin Hisham ordered the prison term in June last year after finding the 40-year-old guilty of both offenses.

The sentences were to run consecutively, requiring him to serve just 13 months.

He was released on bail of RM10,000 awaiting the result of his appeal.

Farid was also sentenced to pay RM5,000 in prosecution expenses, which he complied with.

Farid was charged with both offenses against Constable Muhammad Nizam Jamaluddin on January 11, 2018 at the Kota Damansara police station at 1.20pm.

Additionally, he was accused with injuring Nizam and a member of the public, Asyraf Ahmad, at the same location and time.

He made an RM5,000 compound payment to Nizam and another RM8,000 payment to Asyraf in accordance with Section 260 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Ho Kwon Chin, Deputy Public Prosecutor, prosecuted.

In February, the Sultan of Pahang withdrew Farid’s datukship. While no explanation for the revocation was provided, it was widely thought to be connected to his conviction.
