Japan’s male police cadets are learning makeup skills. This change has sparked discussions on social media, luring mixed reactions. Some users are making humorous remarks, but others are supporting the idea.
Traditionally, police academies across Japan focus on physical and legal training. But the latest introduction of training for makeup, skincare and grooming is seen as an effort to promote professionalism and community engagement.
Shiseido, a cosmetics company, is part of the program, according to a report in the South China Morning Post. The training includes fundamental makeup techniques such as moisturizing and applying primers, in addition to grooming skills like hairstyling.
The change is part of an effort to maintain a neat and professional appearance for officers as they often remain in the public eye. Besides a Japanese police academy in Fukushima, another academy in Yamaguchi has also started a similar program.
