KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Miniter Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has expressed optimism the the Presidential-elect Joe Biden would acknowlegde Asean.

Mustapa said that the victory of Biden was well received by the world as it needed to make changes considering former President Donald Trump did not put much attention in the region.

He hopes that his leadership will bring change as the region felt during the Trump administration.

He added that not only the United States is the largest military power to date, it is also a major economic powerhouse, contributing  20% of the world’s economy.

The minister also hoped the Biden would boost the trading from the region without restriction once the tensions has been reduced.

Former Vice President Joe Biden yesterday has been elected the 46th president of the United States by narrowly beating Donald Trump in the Electoral College.

However, Trump accused Biden of “rushing to falsely pose as the winner” and vowed that the election is far from over. The United States is ASEAN’s 4th largest trading partner.
