Nation Mourns for the demise of Prominent Indonesian Military Figure Ryamizard Ryacudu

As per the available information Indonesia’s prominent military personality Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away on January 30, 2025 (Thursday) due to complications in the heart system but it is not officially declared by the medical team. It is reported that he had been under Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) before he took his last breath on January 28, 2025. Family and close kith & kin of Ryamizard appealed to the public to remain calm and give privacy during this tough time.

Journey of Ryamizard in Ministry of Defense

  • He graduated in the Military Academy in 1974 where he was known as a combat soldier with extraordinary skills and courage on the battlefield.
  • His excellence took him to places to resolve the conflicts which included Kalimantan, East Timor, Cambodia and he took part in the important operations such as Operation Seroja, Free Aceh Movement, & UN Peacekeeping Force.
  • He was appointed as Commander of the V/Brawijaya Military Command, Commander of the Jaya Military Command.
  • In the year 2000, he became the Commander of Kostrad by replacing Lieutenant General Agus Wirahadikusumah
  • In 2002, he was promoted as Army Chief of Staff (KSAD) and he expressed his firm leadership.
  • During the tenure of President Megawati Soekarnoputri he was nominated as TNI Commander.
  • Later it was annulled by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
  • In 2014, he became the Minister of Defense in the Working Cabinet till 2019.
